Corsa all'Anello di Narni

Corsa all’Anello di Narni

Corsa all'Anello di Narni

Some of our guests enjoy spending a day in Rome and in the evening return to the peaceful and relaxed atmosphere of Torre Palombara. The possibility of taking the train is a very easy and stress-free option. Torre Palombara is also very convenient for those who want to escape from Rome for a weekend break, or those who are en-route to Tuscany and want to spend a few days in Umbria before heading North.

Narni Sotterranea

Narni Sotterranea

The Speco of Saint Francis

While staying at Torre Palombara, you should also follow the paths of San Francesco (Saint Francis) of Assisi. San Francesco, patron saint of animals, the environment and one of the two patron saints of Italy (with Catherine of Siena) is certainly one of the most famous sons of Umbria.

The Speco Francescano is located only a few kilometers away from Narni and it is one of the most authentic and well preserved sanctuaries of San Francesco. It was founded by him in 1213 and it  perfectly represents the spirit and characteristics of this saint: mystic, peaceful and loving.

It is immersed in a green valley, with a small cloister (“chiostro”) dating back to the 13th century, when San Bernardino of Siena built the dormitory. The beautiful chapel of San Silvestro can be found in the cloister, with wonderful frescos from the twelfth century. Near the church you can find the big crevice in the rock, “the Speco”, which was San Francesco’s favorite place to pray and medidate.

Umbrian Dinner in the ¨Borgo¨

Umbrian cuisine is famous for its fresh and genuine ingredients and rich in simple and delicious recipes. At Torre Palombara we know many “hidden gems” among the local restaurants.

We highly recommend a dinner in a cosy family-run restaurant Taverna di Porta Nova in Stroncone, a lovely Medieval town located on top of a hill. You will get the opportunity to dine within the walls of a former monastery dating back to the 13th century.

The excellent chef will make you try seasonal local dishes as well as his own recipes. The dinner will be based on typical local products and you will receive a special treatment.

La Fiorita di Castelluccio

La Fiorita di Castelluccio

Summer is one of the best seasons to enjoy the vivid colors of the Umbrian landscape. Castelluccio di Norcia with its “Fiorita” is the perfect place to do so.

The plateau around Castelluccio di Norcia is worth a visit anytime of the year, but between the end of May and July you will remain speechless while looking at the colorful fields in bloom. You will see many different kinds of flowers, such as poppies, violets and narcissus drawing banners of red, yellow, lilac and white on this plateau which create an incredibly beautiful scenery.
